Techniques for Blooming, Young, Photographers

Rigg The Game In Your Favor!

You can’t improve upon perfection.  The only thing you CAN do, is accentuate features…  These Pansies are from Leslie’s garden.  That’s usless to you.  What you do need to know, is that all of her flowers are in pots!  That means I can transport them from outside, to inside, on a table near a window, to catch some outside light.  There, the plant is free from the swaying effect that wind can have on flowers.

If you’re taking a macro shot like the one above, any movement is greatly magnified, often resulting in blurry images.  Too much color can be bad for jpgs. over time, causing uneven, and unsightly discoloration.  In the case of flowers, the field is shallow, so depth of field is not so important.  This is an excellent opportunity to use: ‘contrast’ to bring out color instead!  I sometimes use a little spray bottle before I take the shot, to add interest.  Perks up the flower too!  And since pansies are small, and the droplets are big, they make a good candidate for that: ‘Fresh rain’ feeling…

Go for Lens Effects!

Here are some pansies, using a 24 mm wide angle lens from about 5 feet away…

Look at what happens to the perspective when you are only 1 foot away…  All proportions are exaggerated!  Now, they look like an angry mob!  Even if you’re out standing in your field because: ‘There’s a Nuke Hid in Town!’, if you love what you’re doing, and are willing to experiment, the results are bound to be good!

A Labor of Love:

You would not believe how small this flower is.  However, at full size, the picture is a foot by a foot and a half.  So this little guy looks enormous at that size.  And it came covered in dirt specs less than a pin head in size, so quite invisable in the sun: where I was standing when I took this shot.

All you can do, is find the larges clear spot, and adjust your clone tool to that size, and start clicking away…  It took me a full hour to get it all!  I look at it this way.  Though the task seems enormous, with patience, it can be accomplished!  Some of the others were just as bad.  Like I always say: ‘It’s what you don’t see that brings on the perfection flowers so richly deserve!

See how this leaves a clear space on the left for peoples icons: a good idea to keep in mind, if you like desktop pictures.  Some peole do and some don’t.  So, once in a while is all that’s necessary.  These shots would all still be clear at 18″ x 24″.  If you intend to make any hard copies, be sure and convert the file from RGB to CMYK.

Here’s the orchid from afar…  Beautiful isn’t it?  Orchids are very fussy and hard to grow!  Most people just over water them and they die from root rot.  You should water them once every three weeks, give them indirect sun, and never spray them!  This does well as an indoor plant.  Expensive though.  This one cost me $22, plus thumb tax!

Be sure and view all these at full size!  They are perfect macros: I’m using a half life size, Canon 50 mm. lens in conjuction with tubing, to give me up to twice life size, which is pretty close!  I prefere tubbing because having no added glass between you and your subject, hence means, no degregation in quality.  Enjoy!

Knowing Me Knowing You

Psychology 101

I don’t always try to write funny posts.  Nor do I always aim for the serious side of you.  OK…  That just about covers it.  Bye now.  LOL!  People always ask me where my ideas come from.  How do I settle upon a topic, and then settle myself into it, when others say they just sit there with a blank look on their faces?  It’s simple, my speech in paramount, is to accomplish two things that affect you directly.  And they are, to implant thoughts between the lines, and to stir up some kind of emotional response.  Younger folks must spend a lot of time researching their material, where as us crusty, old farts retrieve info. directly from our numb skulls, so it’s difficult to give you a definitive answer in so wide a gambit.  I will say that I have a topic in mind as soon as I wake up.  And once I start typing, the cylinders begin to kick in, and the rest is history.  Try starting out with the first thing that pops up, then clean off your screen and begin typing…  That’s just knowing me knowing you:  I know you mosquitoes!  You may be blood-suckers at heart, but fragile and easily swatted down.  You can be swayed to do anything!  I’m your insect repellent!  Or if you prefer, here to keep the wolves at bay…

Miss Direction

You can pretty much get people to do anything you like by making them believe one thing, while actually accomplishing another.  A good way to observe this in motion, is to see how various companies trick you into buying their products.  One example is on a TV commercial where they show you a humongous picture of how well their tooth-brush works, in a giant mouth, so you’ll miss the tiny disclaimer in the bottom right hand corner that they must include by law that says: ‘Dramatization’…  And we all know that drama is just another word for ‘exaggeration’.  They get you to concentrate on their big BS picture, so you’ll miss the most important small one.

Another tactic commonly used is disguise.  Say you’re going shopping for a pound of butter.  As you well know, butter is a disguised word for animal fat.  Butter sounds much more pleasant to the ear though, so they use that.  There are two kinds of butter: salted, and unsalted.  They don’t do well selling unsalted butter, so to trick you into buying it, they package it in exactly the same packaging as the salted butter, once again putting the word ‘unsalted’ in a tiny, inconspicuous place.  So you, the unsuspecting mark in a big fat hurry, just grab the first hunk you see up front where they’ve strategically placed all the unsalted butter, thereby getting you to buy what they want you to buy, rather than what you’re looking for.

Knowing the Future

You can grab onto a pretty good idea of what the future holds in store for you by examining the past.  This is true because Mankind pretty much plods along the same old paradigm century after century.  The mood changes, but the plot is pretty much the same:  Make money and get laid…  Once again, TV reveals much about this.  TV was invented by the Jews, so they could go out and get rich while they keep you seated.  Things are always recycled:  What was old, suddenly becomes new again, rather, just with a slightly different twist.  Observe and old movie from 1957…  Then, young men wore hats and suits, and women wore their hair short with dresses that flared out.  Are these trends not coming back into fashion now, what with mobsters and débutantes?  Back then, people were more of the sentimental type, were more heart-felt and helped each other achieve their goals.  Is this not once more in vogue?  In the future, as technology takes over, and huge corporations smother character and individuality, things will swing back again toward the cold and heartless.  There’s only the two ways to go ya know…

In Contusion

I tell you these things, not to achieve dominion over you or boss you into some kind of submission at all!  Rather to remind you of what you already know, yet remain paralyzed to execute, because it’s become very obvious to me that your hearts are breaking.  Just trying to look out for you, that’s all.  Think of me as a mother hen laying eggs all over the place.  Eventually, someone’s got to pick one up and run with it!  So knowing me knowing you, is not so shabby.

Obama, to help fight terrorism, suddenly has the brilliant idea to allow 5 million illegal immigrants into the country…  That guy is sleeping with the enemy.  Yet, as they gradually convince you that what he’s doing is a good thing, CNN completely changed their stance the next day and began praising him for his actions.  Think back to the mans origins…  He’s a mobster from Chicago!  They give you what you want to hear to keep you quiet and complacent while they accomplish their dirty work!  I’m here to armor you up with the truth, to stir you into action against these tactile shenanigans.  A shot in the arm may hurt at first, but it keeps you from contracting disease!  I’m up front with you because I love you, and know that your intentions are honorable…  You work hard, try to raise a family, help others where and however you can!  None of this is easy to do.  Rather, it is the right thing to do, and only what you should be doing.

I’m here to support and advance that integrity within you.  I provide you with the fruit-ages of the spirit!  They are: Gal. 5:22,23  On the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience,* kindness, goodness,+ faith, 23  mildness, self-control.+ Against such things there is no law.

For strength to use them, follow this: Eph. 6: 11-17  Put on the complete suit of armor+from God so that you may be able to stand firm against the crafty acts* of the Devil; 12  because we have a struggle,*+ not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces+ in the heavenly places. 13  For this reason take up the complete suit of armor from God,+ so that you may be able to resist in the wicked day and, after you have accomplished everything, to stand firm.14  Stand firm, therefore, with the belt of truth fastened around your waist,+ wearing the breastplate of righteousness,+ 15  and having your feet shod in readiness to declare the good news of peace.+ 16  Besides all of this, take up the large shield of faith,+with which you will be able to extinguish all the wicked one’s burning arrows.*+ 17  Also,accept the helmet of salvation,+and the sword of the spirit, that is, God’s word,+

Show us the way

Our Loving Father Jehovah God;

We humbly approach you, in the name of your dearly beloved son Jesus Christ, to ask for strength, and guidance through this troubled, and enslaving world;

Strength we ask, to resist against our suffering, and guidance to alleviate it from within ourselves, and others.

Through perseverance, and hope, may we seek to heal one another!

Teach us our dear Jesus, that we may find tolerance for those less fortunate than ourselves, to give them love, and food, and replace ignorance and sadness, with wisdom and kindness!

Mostly, we thank you that you are still giving us time to improve upon this world you have entrusted to us!

Thank you that you protect, and feed the poor, vanquish disease, and will ultimately reward us with ever-lasting life in a better world!  Fortify us with patience and forgiveness;

Bring us closer to your heart!  Keep our children happy, loving, wise, and strong!

Show us the way, the truth, and the life!

In Love Always:  We ask these things in Christ’s name.  Amen.
